Katamari Damacy (personal rating) - 9.8/10
Gamespot rating - 8.7/10 Player ratings - 8.9/10 Storyline - 7/10 Sound - 8/10 Gameplay - 9.5/10 Value - 9/10 Graphics - 10/10 Katamari Damacy is one of the most twisted and insane games there is. WARNING: THIS GAME IS THE ANTIPODE OF DEATH NOTE. PLAYING THIS GAME WILL DECREASE YOUR IQ. We'll start off with the storyline: it's decently well made, entertaining, and all-around crackhead-ish. The only real downside to the game is that if you can't make a star in the time they give you, you can't advance the storyline. However, they fixed this in the later games. Though, the game makes more sense if you play with some friends that are willing to let their IQs drop 10-20 points for some good laughs. Though, the actual storyline begins as so; The King of All Cosmos got bored one day and decided, "lets go destroy every star in the universe!" So, for about 15 minutes (game time, not real time), he's flying around and popping every star he comes across. Then he goes, "whoops" and sends his son, The Prince of All Cosmos (you) to go and make new ones to replace them. It's not much of a real reason to do this, but in this game, logic seems to die a little every few seconds. Sound: The music is overall good. Something worth listening to while rolling up things, be it a paperclip, and entire city, or even the Thunder God Raijin himself. (Yes, we have done it before.) Gameplay: Once you get a hang of the controls, they let you go on your rampages. You usually start off with a small katamari (the ball you're rolling), around 10 cm or so, and build it up to a bigger one. The entire game is run with just the two analog sticks, so you don't have to memorize and complicated and overly thought combinations. It's a very simple game, but if you can really get into it, it's very fun. You go from rolling up paperclips and packs of gum, to fruit and small animals, then eventually work your way up and be able to roll up people, cars, and in some insane stroke, entire buildings, clouds, and even the aforementioned Thunder God. Even a rainbow if you can find it in time. ![]() The only downside to the gameplay is that if you fail a mission, the King is no less than sheer brutal. You get 1 cm under what he wants, and he'll smash the katamari into stardust and give you a really good scolding. Other than that, the game is insanely fun, until you get to the Ursa Major (maybe it was minor) constillation, and you have to roll up a bear. No matter how small it is (even a sign that says "watch out for bears" with a picture of a bear on it), it's still a bear. Though, we've managed to make a running joke out of "BEEEAAAAARRRR!!" ![]() Value: Definitely worth the money, especially if you can get friends to play along with you and challenge each other to do better. Then again, that's probably why they put a VS mode on it. lolz. The more you play it, the more fun it is. Though, the only reason we stopped playing before was because we felt that -30 IQ points was enough for one day. ![]() Don't worry, it's not permanent. By the next day, you'll feel almost back to normal again. ![]() Graphics: The graphics are great, be it when you're trying to roll up a cat, running from a person that didn't have his morning coffee, or simply just trying to roll up a guy in a cow suit, it's always great to be able to see the person before you roll it up and see it on the katamari before it becomes enveloped in the mass of attempted assimilation of the entire Earth. They aren't as new-age as some of the other games, but the blocky-ness and cheesy graphics just somehow fall into place while you play.
