Fan....wrong.....idiots......

Took apart my PS2 to look at it and see if I could figure out what was wrong with it, since the warranty is LONG past gone.

Turns out that whoever designed the PS2, put the fan pointing directly down, away from where the heat source is. -_-
Ontop of that, they left no escape for the heat, so all it did was build up more and more until the whole thing was fried.

I'm about ready to slap whoever came up with this idea.

Do you have a normal old ps2 or the crappy slimlines? My ps2 has a place on the side where heat escapes. Its not like they designed it for each and every one of them to fry. Maybe the downward pointing fan is suppose to keep the heat off the chipboard kinda like a motherboard in a computer. Either way sony doesnt "set off a chip" in your ps2 man get over that already . Ive had mine a good 6 years as ive said before and it still works fine. Maybe its good luck and ps2's do suck, but none of my friends have ever had a bad one either. I do know that the slimline ones really tend to stop reading disks for some reason.

Yeah, I have the silver one.
I know the older ones have a vent (the big ones) and I loved those. They didn't seem to think this one through, since they put a tiny a** fan in it and didn't put a way for the heat to escape. It ended up just recirculating over and over until the WHOLE PS2 was fried.

I know the chip thing isn't real. It was a joke.
Though, I do find it strange that my previous PS consoles always seemed to break on the EXACT day that the next one came out.

I would have to have proof long before i would believe that, sorry. How is it broken exactly? will it flat out not turn on? or just freeze every 30 seconds?

The ALL broke the exact same way. In all of them, it always gave me "disk read error" every time I went to make it read the disk, even if I sat there for hours trying to make it read the disk.

Since you claim that it fried itself from heat maybe you played it way too much for real long periods at a time? Personally i dont do that to my consoles (especially my 360 as hot as they get), but thats just me ya know.

I know I can fry them, but I still think it's weird that it would stop working on the EXACT date that the console came out. So far it's happened with both PS consoles, and if I get a PS3 and it happens, then I might actually start believing the chip thing. o_o

It would cost sony millions to have something large enough to fry their console chips anywhere in the world. They would never ever go to that much trouble for it. The profit from buyers would never cover the cost of equipment used to do that. Its funny the way you word it though, its like the second walmart put that PS3 on the shelf or the very instant gamestops doors opened at midnight your ps2 just up and cooked itself.
