Not really. All they'd haev to do is have a time-release or even a remote actived disconnect. All it'll do is disconnect the actual reader in a way that it can't read the disks anymore. Or even use a material that's quality would only last a year and a half (or however long they need to make the next console) and let it break then.
It wasn't that insant, but it was the very same day. The day before it came out, it was reading my disk and playing perfectly, but the next day it was fried and wouldn't read anything.
