Random Encounters

What would you prefer?
Random Encounters or none-RE?

Non-RE for sure. I'd prefer to see my enemies on the main screen so I can dodge them if I want. Plus it's a hell of a lot less running around to try and find a specific monster.

Well, my views are different on this matter.

I like random encounters, why? Because... Ummm. Example: You're walking down a field, and you are like *Please don't let me encounter that monster!*. Because you know that monster is difficult to defeat. Its like, a trembling & uneasy feeling in a way, and then the screen smashes, and you're into a big surprise.
I think it is a classic, at least for me. But I do agree it gets annoying, if you meet the same monster over and over, and not to meet the one you want.
It would be cool if they made it possible to choose if you want RE or not from the beginning of the game, or in start menu.

That would be an interesting option, but they would have to make ALL of the maps twice. That would probably increase the price of the game another $10-$30 easy since it would be a much larger game and took more time and money.

I like random encounters because i dont like to dodge enemies like im a wussy or something. Since i dont like to run with random encounters it helps me train even faster just doing storyline because i never run. Of course i would play the game either way. Tales of symphonia was non-RE and that was the best gamecube game ive ever owned.

Now I've got used to non-RE.
It's always been so annoying when you try to explore and then you get into a battle out of nowhere and it breaks whatever concentration you had.
So yeah, non-RE for me.

There are some that are in the way on purpose that you can't dodge.
And having them there, you can just fight every monster team shown and you're almost guarenteed to be a high enough level to beat whatever boss is coming your way.

thats true. I was only saying i personally like random better. Plus most non-re games ive played only so many monsters will spawn in an area then you have to leave and come back to fight more. Its no big deal, but with random i can just stay where ever i want and fight all day. AND! at the same time with non-re by the time i could run around in random it would take just as long to re-load an area so they both equal out to me in terms of making the game better or worse really. I cant lean towards one or the other truly affecting gameplay any, i just prefer random for some reason.

EDIT: now that i think about it most the rpg's i play are random so thats probly why i picked it. I have a few non-re, but very few.

The only thing I like about random encounters better than non-RE is that the enemy sprites sometimes clash with the world map or dungeon, whereas being unable to see them in REs can make the place look better in terms of scenery.

From a pure gameplay perspective, definitely non-REs. And there are always times that the sprites do mix in well with the area.
