When I started the game I used mainly Vaan (Sword and shield),Ashe (sword and shield), and Fran (Bow). After Cosplaying as Balthier though I changed my party. I started using Vaan (with sword and shield) as my tank, Balthier (party leader, using Greatswords) as DD and support magic and Fran (bows w/ spears as alternate weapon) as main magic user. I just finished the story line and need to go back to finish hunt/sidequests. At final battle Vaan was at lvl 69 and Balthier and Fran were in mid 50's.

Statistically Vaan, Ashe and Penelo are the best. I'm using them on my replay though I'm alternating with reserve parties.

First time through I ended up with Basch, Fran and Penelo. I probably like this team better character wise along with Balthier.

Vaan is well ... Vaan ... and I like streetsmart girls like Penelo who can be assertive and business minded when needed but are generally nice and friendly more than smart/act badass types types like Ashe. Call me a commoner will you!? :P Penelo reminds me of Aerith *^_^*

On my first game I kept Penelo with daggers (fast attacks + statuses), Fran with bows and Basch tried axes, swords and greatswords.

This time through I have Vaan as my tank whilst Ashe has the Zodiac Spear and Penelo has the Fomalhaut (gun)

I used all six of them, I like to switch them now and then. But my favorite party was Vaan, Fran, Ashe.

Vaan had spears, Fran bows and greatswords, and Ashe shord and shields, or rods.

I used Balthier, Basch, and Ashe on my first playthrough... Ashe used the poles, Balthier used spears, and Basch used swords. Worked well enough, I s'pose. XD

On this playthrough, I'm using Vaan, Ashe, and Penelo. Vaan uses axes, Ashe uses spears, and Penelo uses bows. I really like this team!

Yeah, my party wuz:

Fran with bows and spells
Ashe with spears
Basch with Katanas

My back ups were:

Vaan with daggers
Penelo with Staves
Balthier with Swords

I just rotated them all in and out.
