The wolf....?

Can someone explain to me the significance of the wolf in Advent Children? He shows up alot, he obviously means something... but I'm not sure what he represents....

That's a good point. Though, knowing Enix, they probably put him in there just so players wouldn't complain that he isn't there.

It might have something to do with how he was the last surviving creature on Earth (or whatever planet it was) as far as you knew at the end of the game. He does tend to show up when Aerith is mentioned, so I figure that he's supposed to be a reminder of the past or something.

hmmm.. yea, he's one big puzzle ne? My speculation, he's a symbol of being alone.. like a lone wolf..

reasons?
1. A single wolf in the wild means its lost, or stray. why? because wolves are always in packs. so it shows being lonesome.
2. It always shows in the sad parts of the game, and always, always, when cloud is alone.
3. It only shows itself to cloud or atleast in his mind.

Yeah As I Thought, I Think It's Because Cloud's Very Alone, And Also He Can't Save Anyone, So The "Wolf Excluded From The Group" Could Be Him...The Wolf Appeared For Example When Geostigma Pain Attacked Him When He Was With Tifa In The Garden...He Arrived Too Late,,,

maybe Zack is takin care of cloud...

Wow. Great observation, but why does he show up with Aeris reaches her hand out to give Cloud the last boost?
It's clearly showing that he isn't alone, especially after all of his friends are throwing him higher and higher.

Yeah, that was my thought, I thought he might represent Zack too. you can actually see the wolf at one point in Advent Children in the ancient city near the shell-house where Aeris dies, then as the camera pans around and that spot passes a tree, when you see the spot again the wolf is gone.

I love the wolf, he's such a mystery, and so cool!

Hm. Well, it's just that. He's mysterious and appears almost randomly. If he represented Zack, don't you think it would have been more obvious in that he would have shown up where Zack died and other such places?
If we look at Nanaki's past, he grew up with only one person as a mentor, just as Cloud did (Tifa). They both grew up practically alone, so it would be obvious to compare them that way, but it could be that he represents Cloud's dark past. If you think about it, he shows up in all the places Cloud made a mistake: where Aerith died, in the water near where whatshisface gets all the kids together with the Jenova gene and has them drink the water to do whatever, and other such places.
