Well Mog can be a pretty good dancer. He just has to know the moves for it.

Fun Fact: All of the monsters Mog destroyed in that commercial were actual monsters that could be encountered in FF VI. The last two he destroyed were Chupon (Ultros' goonie) and Doomgaze (an optional boss).

It's more like each dance provides a background, plus various effects based on each dance, and I think the effects come automatically while the party fights (I don't remember if you keep control of Mog after you make him successfully pull off a dance).

I'd recommend either getting FF Anthology (you get both FF V and VI in one box) or FFVI Advance if you get a GBA or GBA emulator.
