I hear this alot. First off, parents are the boss most of the time. They should set up the rules. I'm not saying they should ban out right a game. They could though, not a problem. But afterwards tell the child why they are doing it. Tell them how the game can be unmoral, hurtful and not a good representation of the world around them. Don't just say "You can't have this" You do that and they just want it more, see what was so bad about it.
And for that book catcher in the rye. I don't think the book finds the killer in people. In fact if I went and read it I don't realy think I'd turn into one. I think it's people with thoughts already in their heads about hurting/ killing that read these books and it proves to them to go out and do these things. After all someone wrote about doing violence/murder it makes it seem just a little bit more ok to do. As if to make their conciounce feel better about they are about to do. It's not the book that finds the killer, it's those with thoughts of killing that read the book. And for me personaly, I do think the video game market has been doing a lot more violent games with some having no plot at all. I don't realy care for GTA and stuff, I'm more into FF and RPG games that tell of a story other then this word can create. those are the games I enjoy and I avoid the other ones. If they could make more like them it would make me happy for sure. Yet, that's just me. |

I have tons of books and games. A lot of them are violent and bloody. Usually I just laugh because I know that there is no way I can ever do any of wut they can do. One cuz I'm lazy.... and two I have a mental restrictor set up in my mind (built it meself). It tells me that I can't do that without getting myself into deep trouble.

LOL are you talking about your conscious and it's ability to understand the acts of right and wrong? Cause most would think that's a normal thing everyone has but when it comes to those that act out and blame video games It seems they do not have that or it's not their conscious at all that needs help. It's their ability to acept responsibility that is gone.

Quote:
as for violence in anything that children are exposed to: parents should reinforce what their children see instead of going around and complaining aboot it... also as previously stated: cartoon violence like "Tom & Jerry" is worse for children than gory violent games, because it makes children think that you can smack/stab your friend with a fireplace poker without any consequences whatsoever. if children are exposed to violence it's better for it to be realistic and to have the parents there to explain and teach their children about what they have seen...

As a parent I believe that its okay as long as my child understands the difference between playing the game with a reset button and real life.
