Need some info.

Alright Yoherz this is where i hope you can help of all people. You seem to be a smart guy so i figure randomly you might be able to help me.

Anyway, lately ive been downloading alot of anime. In the past 2 days ive downloaded almost all of Tenjou Tenge from a website called www.anime-eden.com and out of no where today im worried like crazy im going to get caught. When i was younger i dl'ed music left and right and never got caught off limewire and kazaa and such, but i dont do that anymore. Point is i never got caught for it. I know there is NO possible way for the government to catch every single person who downloads and they only catch random people to scare others into quiting, or atleast i assume this much.

My real questions is this, can i really get in big trouble for downloading anime off this website that uploads them for public downloads? It says some series are licensed and cannot be uploaded making me think they only upload unlicensed anime, but i doubt that. All the anime i am downloading is in Japanese with just english subtitiles. I dont know if they are fan subbed or what, but they ARE NOT in english. Im really not worried about it as ive already downloaded like 20 episodes, but gimme some comfort. Ive read all over the internet that yea its illegal, but the anime companies have to track you down themselves so no one really gets in trouble for it. Then again thats just internet talk.

Ok, there's a few factors here.
For one, if they were illegally uploaded, they probably would have shut it down by now, so it's doubtful they did so illegally. This means they own it and can do whatever they wish with it.
Two, look around the site and see if they have a disclaimer similar to the one we have here on CH. If they do, then you could get in trouble if they catch you.
Three, if they don't have one, then it'll be their a** they get on for file sharing, and will probably only get maybe one of the people that downloaded things, and that's only if they can track the people downloading the material.
Four, if they ever do catch you, you can say you're friends with the person that uploaded them (use the name of a friend at school if you want) and are only operating that computer to help them back up some data from that site in case they lose it. In exchange, they let you use that computer for your own personal use whenever you choose. Or something to that effect, saying that you weren't exchanging ownership of the data, but merely transferring it from one hard drive to another.

Thats their disclaimer. Im not all that worried about it cause soon im going to start using the schools computers to get my anime if their blocker allows downloads. Also someone told me to just use a proxy and they wont be able to see my ip address. Im thinking about just buying an external hard drive and keeping it all there and if they ever came to search my computer it would be hidden away on that drive.

Good idea.

Though, nowhere in that disclaimer does it say that you ahve the original copy or anything, so you won't get in any trouble. First time they catch it, they'll alter the disclaimer and it'll be a warning of some kind, most likely. After that, they can say it's your fault.

And yes, you can use a proxy and download it under a different IP and then change it back. They won't be able to track you that way.
And here comes another disclaimer that I have to put here for legal purposes:

Yeah, they said original material, so you could get in trouble. Though, if you use proxy, dump it on an external drive, and all that good stuff then they can't track you.

Don't let it get to you man. I download all the time by using utorrent. For years, and have I been caught? No, I have not, and speaking of Proxy . You can also google *peerguardian* it is also a very good proxy program

I have downloaded all kind of stuff since... I don't know...

and never had troubles... oh yeah... I had... my mom... "You're GOin to jaiL!!! but give me that movie!!!"... anyway... You can download anything you want as long as its for "testing purposes" or for "backups" if games (roms, ISOs, or other), music can also be downloaded, "backups"...

If you have the original content, that would be great, that way you can really say that its for backup purpose... but if you don't you can say you dowloaded it "yesterday", you have 48 to delete the files once downloaded for "testing purposes"...

And if you notice, the only one caught, is those who download to redistribute... As long as you download and keep it for yourself and family (friends == family :P) they won't touch you... Unless you download the FBI hard drive... lol...

And if you want to be real safe... download from Spanish servers.. they have the right to upload and download anything there... and least I think...

I don't think authorities will be chasing everyone of those who "download" from internet, I mean, if i'd be in front of a judge I'd say "you kid downloads too you know!!"... everyone does it... just by entering to a webpage your downloading..:!! ok... its about 300Kb (the page size)... but its downloads...
