Origin of Halloween

Ever wondered how Halloween started? Here it is:

It began with the Celts, when they noticed that as time passed, the days grew shorter and the nights grew longer. They believed that on the day of Halloween, the border between the worlds of the living and the dead...dissapeared.
Thus, they dressed up in tribal clothes and masks to try and scare away these spirits, just as we in America do.
Later on, the Spanish came and their church taught that you should hallow (respect) the spirits. Thus, the Day of the Dead began where people made alters to show respect to their ancestors, just as the people in Mexico do.

The word just evolved. Probably some people were playing around with the words and slurred them together on accident and they liked it, so they started calling it that. That's just a guess, though.

Also how come we give out candy?

Very good question. I suppose it has something to do with the basis of why the mexicans make the candy skulls and stuff. Might have been that sugarcane was a food that they ate during the ceremony or thought had some kind of magical property.

Lulz, I saw this Simpson Halloween Special, where two witches terrorizing the town & stealing people. One night, they knocked the door to one of the town inherits and wanted to take their kids, instead they took their goods instead, candy etc.

I think is correct sum up from that episode, well I probably this summary into my own words anyway.
So thus Hollween got born lol.
