Well...they won't go violent, but if you beat someone, they'll still make you look like a total n00b, which is exactly why I quit MtG for so long, but now all of my actual school friends play MtG, and not that stupid spoiled brat who thinks he knows EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If they go so far as to do that, then they're just being chilidish and immature. There's a lot of the older players that would get on their a** and make them look 10 times worse just for doing that.

are you sure you dont just have nice players around you Yoherz? because I knew a lot of people who played magic...and they treated everyone like garbage :? . do you have to play magic for them to be nice do you ? honest question.

Interesting question, but no. Most of the players here are 21+ (think our school players are the only ones under 18), so they know how to act around other people, when to drop a subject, and when to stay out of an arguement. lol.
The guys we play with are really nice, and the only time we ever insult each other is jokingly in games, like, "big a** creature comin' at ya" and someone else will say, "that's what your mom said."

haha...must be nice. for a long time I was under the impression that the people that played magic were all jerks. they would say something, and me....with my slight lack of hearing...would ask if they said something to me. aaaaaand they ignored me :? . that was about three years ago. I kind of learned to ignore people now unless they say my name . I think these kids were like 18-19 at most though so that explains a lot.

The people that played MtG at my school just flat-out insult you. Even though my deck actually has skill now, the one brat still insults me...then again, he belittles everything I do.

And you were a few years younger than them back then?
Try revisiting them, watch a few games to pick it up, then try playing. They might still insult you, but it won't be a harsh insult, just a joking one every now and again.

they didnt insult me...they ignored me :P . funny thing was I was always in the top 10 for the yugioh tournaments so I should have had some respect from them (I beat them a lot though so.......) . I wouldnt go back to the shop because the guy who ran it was a creepy old fart who thought he was the president -_- .
