I actually tried to beat him at Lv 48 & 49, but I beat him a few days later at Lv 50 & 51. It took me an hour to do so, but it was worth it(since the reward for beating him is the strongest katana in the game).

And I actually did see the Gunblade on him during the second fight. I actually didn't see his Masamune...strange.

As for how I beat him, just have the Gambit, Ally: status=KO. I had Vaan with Phoenix Down and Ashe with Arise in combination with that Gambit. It's best if you take out his friend, Enkidu, first. Use anything you can. Bravery, Haste, high level Black Magick, and Quickenings. Don't worry about Gilgamesh until Enkidu is dead, then fight Gilgamesh. After some damage, he pulls out ANOTHER sword that allows him to use an attack called Bitter End. After going through that, he'll pull out his very last sword and use a very powerful attack(can't remember the name)that can inflict 9999 points of damage to a party member. I really couldn't have beaten him without Reddas being a damage patsy(not a very good one, but yeah). And for some reason, Gilgamesh hates Ashe.
