Well, it would only take a bit of dust in their eyes to completely blind them, ontop of that, as we (I?) said before, they're in more places than forests. Dust aside, they still have other spells to disorient them.

Yeah, it depends on where it originated, and where it went after that. Heck, they could have just been a change up of druids to appeal to younger groups.
