Black Mage's Top 5 of 2007
I am going to pick out what I considered the top 5 games of the year 2007.
1. The Orange Box - Xbox 360, PS3, PC
Reason: Ok first off you are getting 5 games for the price of one. We arent talking crappy games they tend to bundle at walmart that no one plays. You get Half-Life 2, Half-Life Episode One, Half-Life Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. Second, Portal makes this box all worth it. You cant buy portal seperate anywhere that i have seen. Portal can be beat in a matter of around 2 hours, but if you love puzzle games this game rocks the house. Then we have Half-Life 2 and its expansions. Half-Life 2 has an amazing story line following the adventures of Gordon Freeman. Team Fortress 2 is a solid online multiplayer game with a neat twist to shooters.
Bottom line: Look like i said 5 GOOD games for what you will pay for only one, go pick this up if you like shooters.
2. Mass Effect - Xbox 360
Reason: Mass Effect is a wonderful game with tons of content. The storyline is relatively short, but the hundreds of side quests make up for it. Personally Mass Effect is the best game BioWare has ever produced and probly the best 360 game ive played so far. If you have ever played a BioWare game you should know about the choice system they use. The choice system basically determines if you are good or bad and the ending you will get based upon actions. The best aspect of Mass Effect is its extremely creative universe and the dialogue of the game.
Bottom line: Very good semi RPG game with a ton of extra things to do and unlock after finishing.
3. Assassins Creed - PS3, Xbox 360, PC (Early 2008)
Reason: Assassins Creed is one of those "what a twist" games. For the most part it is GTA in the 1100's with no hookers. Anyway, it is a great game aside from one thing, it gets REPETITIVE. The game itself looks absolutly beautiful. The view points in the game really show off its ability to render a full scale city and everything in the background. The sandbox gameplay gives you all the freedon you want to run around and admire the scenes. The weapons and battle system REALLY stands out. The special kill moves are breath takingly awsome pwnage.
Bottom line: It is a really fun sandbox game with great graphics and content.
4. Pokemon Diamond/Pearl - Nintendo DS
Reason: Not only are they the some of the first handheld Pokemon games with their own storylines since 2004-ish, they are greatly improved on the DS. The game features yet again another set of 107 pokemon, totaling now 493 species in the game(s). This is the first pokemon game that i can think of that has online trading. Yes, you can trade with your friend 6 states over now and with ease. It really doesnt take advantage of the touch screen other than choosing attacks, but who cares it is a solid game.
Bottom line: Its a great RPG for the DS with plenty to do and great online features.
5. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, Wii, PC, Mac
Reason: Guitar Hero III is really more of a good multiplayer party game. It has plenty of downloadable content, some free some not. This installment of the Guitar Hero series features the battle mode. Battle mode is where you and a friend play the same song and get power ups along the way to complicate your opponents song. The power ups consist of breaking a string, upping the difficulty setting, breaking the whammy bar, double note, and amp overload.
Bottom line: Great party game or solo its your choice.
I put this in reviews because it pretty much is a little review of each game and why i picked them. No, I DO NOT CARE if you disagree with me about why i picked a certain game and not one you like. Remember these are only games that i have personally played. Yes, I have all of these and have finished each one, with the exception of the Half-Life episodes (which im working on). Thanks for reading.
