Though, the FFIV and FFIX moogles were meant to be small and ridiculous looking. They're meant to be a cute little animal, not an uber powerful monster. It's a small fluffball that does a backflip and a little "ku~po!". It's in a game, for Pete's sake. Don't take them seriously!

Though, the FFXII ones are only half-breeds of the REAL thing. FFXII is supposed to be before tactics, which had the original moogles, thus meaning they're the ancestors of the original moogles that SS made, but apparently had to breed with the viera to get that kind of look (would also explain how the viera reproduce). Later on, the viera became extinct or unavailable for the moogles to breed with, so they became the pure-blooded moogles by breeding with each other.
