Most players don't have the extra $100 on hand to get both games at the same time, and from there the product value would diminish over time, thus forcing them to make less money.

That is why most of them have Credit cards/gift cards. Also some of them ask the cashiers at whatever store they get them at ask if they could reserve that particular game, so they wouldn't have to pay full price. Plus, they get something extra (like a T-Shirt or poster) when they reserve that game.
